Nearly 100 Ukrainian firms join private air-defence pilot, ministry says
Ukraine's Defence Ministry says almost 100 enterprises have joined an experimental private air-defence project, and that the groups formed have destroyed more than 60 aerial targets. The figures are official and unverified.

Almost 100 Ukrainian enterprises have joined an experimental private air-defence project, and the groups formed under it have destroyed more than 60 aerial targets, Ukraine's Defence Ministry said on its Telegram channel on 14 October 2026.
The ministry did not say how the figures were verified. They are official claims and could not be independently confirmed.
Around 50 groups formed
According to the ministry, about 50 air-defence groups have been formed in total. They operate under the direction of the relevant commands of the Ukrainian Air Force.
Groups from six enterprises are already performing combat tasks, the ministry said. The remaining groups are either in training or completing their formation.
Interceptor drones and automated turrets
The main weapons used by the private air-defence groups are interceptor drones and automated turrets fitted with heavy machine guns, the ministry said.
Enterprises buy some types of weapons at their own expense. They can also ask the Air Force to lend them weapons temporarily from the stores of military units, according to the ministry.
What the ministry did not say
The announcement did not name the participating companies or say where the groups operate. It did not specify what kinds of targets were destroyed, such as drones or missiles, or how many of the 60-plus targets were downed by each type of weapon. It also did not describe the legal framework for the project or what "experimental" status means in practice.
The initiative is a pilot that lets businesses take part in protecting their own sites from aerial attack, with the groups placed under military command. The ministry's post did not describe the project's purpose in those terms, but it did make clear that the groups are subordinate to the Air Force.
Wider context
Russia regularly attacks Ukraine with long-range drones and missiles. Ukraine's Defence Ministry, citing Air Force data, said earlier this month that air defence destroyed 4,700 drones and missiles in September. Against that scale, the 60-plus targets credited to the private groups are a small share of the total, though the project is still being rolled out.
