Russian forces have completely destroyed the KSM Protek lubricants plant in Kyiv region, the company said in a statement reported by the Ukrainian business outlet Ekonomichna Pravda on 12 October. Production at the site has been halted.

According to the report, the company's statement does not mention any injuries or deaths.

What is not known

The report does not say when the strike took place, in which town or district of Kyiv region the plant is located, or what weapon was used. The company's full statement was not available to RealUA, and the claim could not be independently verified. No official comment from regional authorities or the Ukrainian military on this specific site was available at the time of writing.

Russia launched a combined missile and drone attack on Ukraine overnight into 12 October, according to the Ukrainian General Staff, as covered earlier by RealUA. Whether the attack on the plant was part of that overnight assault has not been confirmed.

Why it matters

Lubricants plants produce motor oils and other industrial lubricants for vehicles, machinery and industry. The sources do not give the plant's capacity, workforce, ownership or market share, so the impact on Ukraine's lubricants market cannot be assessed yet. The company has not said whether it plans to rebuild or move production.

The strike comes amid a wave of Russian attacks on Ukrainian infrastructure and amid an energy ceasefire announced by US President Donald Trump on 11 October. President Volodymyr Zelensky has said Russia violated that truce. Moscow has not confirmed it, according to earlier RealUA reporting.

This is a developing story and will be updated if the company or officials provide further details.
